Description

Taking advantage of the widespread expertise at KIT, “The Research University in the Helmholtz Association”, we combine accelerator-relevant infrastructures, technologies, and research to advance accelerator science and technology. We operate the test facilities Karlsruhe Research Accelerator (KARA), a 2.5-GeV electron storage ring and synchrotron light source, and the short-pulse linear accelerator and terahertz source (FLUTE). We develop innovative technologies for large-scale accelerator projects ranging from high-throughput beam diagnostics systems to superconducting undulators and high temperature superconducting magnets. Within a multi-disciplinary environment with a strong engineering tradition, we strive to understand fundamental processes to realize compact and energy efficient accelerators for real-world applications in research and society.
