Description
Researchers at the KIT Institute of Microstructure Technology have taken a close look at beetles and plants and made some fascinating discoveries: In the course of evolution, many plants and animals have developed microstructured surfaces with useful properties. In the laboratory, they are now trying to understand and technically imitate these solutions - a field of research known as bionics. Wall paint that does not contain potentially harmful color pigments and plastic films that can be used to clean waterways of oil pollution are just two examples of future applications.
