Description
The linear accelerator and terahertz facility FLUTE at KIT provides ultrashort electron bunches with energies up to 50 MeV. The accelerator consists of a femtosecond laser-driven photo-injector, a linear acceleration section and a bunch compressor. FLUTE is set up to provide coherent radiation in ultra-short, very intense, light pulses spanning the terahertz and far-infrared spectral range and beyond. The test facility FLUTE can be configured to host a variety of different experiments with electrons and photons.
Ongoing research activities within the Accelerator Technology Platform at KIT include the development of detector, magnet, and accelerator technologies for biomedical applications. Here, KIT cooperates with the German Cancer Research Center and the Heidelberg University Hospital in the development and characterization of new technologies and modalities for radiation therapy.
Following a successful transnational access application for KARA, KIT can provide European users from outside of Germany co-financing of an on-site visit to a KIT facility as part of EURO-LABS.
EUROpean Laboratories (EURO-LABS) for Accelerator Based Sciences provides access to a network of 45 Research Infrastructures in the fields of Nuclear Physics, Accelerator and Detector technology for High Energy Physics.
